Lombok–Perth Flight Connection Expected by Late 2025

Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport in Lombok, Indonesia, set to reopen its direct Perth flight connection in 2025
Lombok is preparing for a new chapter in its international connectivity, with the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government targeting the reopening of a direct flight route between Lombok and Perth, Australia, by late 2025.

The plan follows discussions with Batik Air and AirAsia as potential operators for the route via Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (BIZAM). Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal confirmed on 15 September that the Lombok–Perth link is currently the most feasible option being pursued.

“Our target is to open flights from Lombok to Perth, Australia, by the end of this year,” said Iqbal in his statement.

Reconnecting Lombok and Perth

This route is not new to the island. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Jetstar operated flights between Perth and Lombok, offering Australian travellers a direct and convenient gateway to one of Indonesia’s most pristine destinations. Its revival is expected to be a major step forward for Lombok’s tourism economy.

Australian tourists have historically been one of the largest international markets for Lombok. With Perth just a few hours away by air, a direct connection offers both affordability and convenience for holidaymakers seeking beaches, diving, surfing, and cultural experiences.

“The opening of this route will make it easier for Australian tourists to visit this area,” Iqbal added.

Why International Routes Matter for Lombok

Direct international connections are considered vital for Lombok’s long-term growth. The island, often described as the “Island of a Thousand Mosques,” offers a quieter and more natural alternative to neighbouring Bali. Yet limited flight access has traditionally been a barrier to growth.

By re-establishing the Perth connection, Lombok strengthens its position on the regional tourism map. The move is also expected to pave the way for other international links in the future, further diversifying visitor markets and reducing reliance on domestic arrivals.

Expanding Domestic Access

Alongside international ambitions, the NTB government is focusing on strengthening domestic flight routes. Expanding connections between Lombok and other Indonesian cities will improve accessibility for both locals and visitors.

“One of our challenges so far has been the limited number of flight routes to Lombok. With new domestic connections, we can encourage more tourist visits to the region,” Iqbal noted.

More flights mean greater flexibility for travellers, which in turn supports businesses across hospitality, transport, and real estate.

A Boost for Tourism and Investment

Improved connectivity is about more than just tourism. For Lombok, a direct link to Perth also brings long-term benefits for property and investment sectors. Easier access encourages Australian investors, retirees, and second-home seekers to explore opportunities on the island — including Eastern Edge’s Pengantap Riviera project in South Lombok.

Eastern Edge has long highlighted the importance of infrastructure as a catalyst for sustainable growth in South Lombok. The Lombok–Perth route provides yet another reason why the island is emerging as a serious lifestyle and investment destination in Indonesia.

With iconic surf breaks, turquoise bays, and untouched landscapes, Lombok is increasingly positioned as a natural alternative for those seeking a balance between barefoot living and modern comfort. Stronger flight access will only accelerate this transition.

Looking Ahead

The Lombok–Perth connection is targeted for launch by late 2025. If successful, it will be a milestone in Lombok’s journey towards becoming a globally connected destination.

For visitors, it means easier travel. For residents and investors, it represents growing confidence in Lombok’s future as both a tourism hub and a place to call home.
