Govt Cuts Domestic Airfares by Up to 14% Ahead of Year-End Holidays — Cheaper Flights to Lombok

The Indonesian government has officially reduced domestic airfares by up to 14 percent for the upcoming Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holiday season, following a directive from President Prabowo Subianto to sustain economic momentum and support household spending.

The Ministry of Transportation confirmed that the discounted fares apply to economy-class flights across domestic routes, including popular destinations such as Bali, Lombok, Yogyakarta, Labuan Bajo, and Medan.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi announced that the reduced fares will be available for travel between 22 December 2025 and 10 January 2026, with tickets available for purchase starting 22 October 2025.

“This decision reflects the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens who wish to reunite with their families or travel for leisure during the festive season,” said Minister Dudy.

The fare cuts are part of a coordinated effort supported by multiple government bodies, including:

  • A ministerial decree reducing fuel surcharges,
  • A Finance Ministry regulation providing a 6% VAT subsidy for economy-class tickets, and
  • An aviation authority directive cutting airport service fees by half.

These combined measures aim to make domestic air travel more accessible while maintaining safety and service quality standards.

Cheaper Flights to Lombok

With the reduction applying to all domestic routes, flights between Bali and Lombok are also expected to become more affordable during the holiday period. This move is anticipated to boost tourism to Lombok, one of Indonesia’s fastest-growing travel destinations, known for its white sand beaches, surf spots, and eco-luxury stays.

According to the Transportation Ministry, the overall price reduction comes from a combination of lower aviation fuel prices at 37 airports, reduced passenger service charges, and discounts on aircraft landing and parking fees.

Minister Dudy expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including airlines, fuel suppliers, and airport operators, for working together to implement this initiative smoothly.

“We want affordable travel for all Indonesians, especially during special occasions like Christmas and New Year, without compromising flight safety or service quality,” he said.

Encouraging Domestic Tourism

The fare cuts are expected to stimulate domestic tourism and benefit regions like Lombok, which rely heavily on inter-island travel. Lower airfares will make it easier for travellers from Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali to visit Lombok’s popular destinations such as Kuta Mandalika, Mount Rinjani, and the Gili Islands.
