Indonesia AirAsia to Launch Bali–Melbourne Route Starting March 2026

Indonesia AirAsia is set to introduce a new Bali to Melbourne service beginning 20 March 2026, marking an important step in the airline’s move deeper into the Australian market. The route will operate daily between Melbourne Airport and Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali.

Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Indonesia AirAsia, described the flight as the company’s first international route for the first half of 2026. He noted that the initiative is expected to reinforce economic and social relations between Indonesia and Australia while creating fresh possibilities for trade and tourism cooperation. The airline also aims to provide travellers with more affordable and flexible options to experience the character of both destinations.

Expanding Connections Beyond Melbourne and Bali

The additional service will broaden travel choices for Australian passengers using Denpasar as a transit hub. From Bali, guests will be able to connect conveniently to several Indonesian cities including Jakarta, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Labuan Bajo, and other domestic routes within the AirAsia network.

The flow works in both directions. Indonesian travellers will gain simpler access to Melbourne, the Victoria region, and a range of attractions across Australia, supported by streamlined booking and transfer services.

Seamless Fly-Thru Experience

Through AirAsia’s Fly-Thru programme, passengers can continue their journey to popular regional destinations such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Phuket  without the need to collect and recheck their luggage in Bali. This system is designed to shorten waiting times and make multi-city travel easier.

Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne, welcomed the launch, saying that direct flights between the two cities represent a concrete effort to enhance the partnership between both nations. He emphasized that stronger connectivity will not only boost visitor numbers but also support collaboration in fields such as education, culture, and community exchange.
